Pea Island 1880-1947
Lifesaving Station Pea Island, NC was the only unit in the history of the Coast Guard to be manned by all black crews. They were noted for their heroic rescue of passengers and crew from the storm-wrecked three masted schooner E.S.Newman on October 11, 1896.
